Murder In Butler County This story covers a period of time in the late 1800’s. When southerners were coming out from under a very dark time in the Post-Civil War South. Men with families struggled just to put food on the table. While other men were very angry, and felt that they were owed much from those who invaded their homes, and their homeland. These people went about robbing the above mentioned revivalists of the North as well as those southerners who had sided with the post war federalists. The John Hipp of this story was born in 1860 in Cass County, Georgia. He was born to a father who had suffered great loss to the war. His father, was a very hard task master on his son growing up in poverty, as was the case of the majority of the people in the south. His life is told over a period of time from 1870 through 1892. He worked in the gold mines of North Georgia in, and around Dahlonega in 1880. In these Gold Camps a young man of twenty who was looking for trouble could certainly find it. The trouble that John Hipp found in North Georgia would follow him into his new life in North Alabama, and beyond. He would find the love that he had never known there on the mountains of North Alabama. He would be given the chance of a life time by a great man of means. But, could this new found love, and prosperity last, or was his past going to catch up to both he, and his new family. The people of the South suffered greatly even after the Civil War. This story tells how a man could be pushed into acts that went against everything that he had been taught. But, once he had stepped onto that road there would be no turning back. Some time a man can not go back. The only direction is forward regardless of the cost. You will be drawn into this man's life, and experience all that he does as if you were making this journey with him.
