Robbie Wales is young and starting a new job in a new town, on his own. Coming from a split family, he was raised by his mother and maternal grandparents and came out as a teen without a lot of fuss, but his father, whom he only saw infrequently, has never known. As an adult, he's found he's got a lot in common with his father, and they're finally getting to know each other. He fears coming out to his father may jeopardize that.

Then he meets Raj Williams, the attractive man in the trailer next to his father's in a seasonal RV park. Raj is handsome, sophisticated, yet loves to fish and watch silly Disney movies.

Raj finds Robbie equally interesting. But Robbie's still in the closet, at least in Port Stephen, and Raj's ex used that as an excuse to treat him as nothing more than a friend with benefits. He's not interested in a repeat experience.

Robbie finally finds the courage to come out to his father, but was it all just for a summer fling?

The Lure of Port Stephen (ARC) was graciously provided to me by IndiGo Marketing & Design for an honest review.

One doesn't have to be a great and experienced fisherman to enjoy, "The Lure of Port Stephen", to be able to enjoy its plentiful descriptive scenarios and its overall lure. This book is a recommended read for those who would enjoy spending an afternoon or two at the lake or at the beach, or, even in a comfy chair at home, in order to be loose themselves in a love story filled with revelations and discoveries, that will enable two young men to experience love as they never have before..

"The Lure of Port Stephen", by Sydney Blackburn, is a book whose play on words, reflects the outcome of two individuals who discover that being completely open to ones likes and desires is the best thing that they could have ever done.

Having been drawn to this book by its alluring and nostalgia producing summer memories, I eagerly jumped right into it, looking forward to discovering all about Robbie Wales and Raj Williams. Robbie, a sandy-brown haired incredibly sweet and considerate 22 year old, took the acquisition of a new job, as a sign to finally gather up the nerve to speak with his father about a very delicate subject matter, despite his growing fear of abandonment. As almost like coming across a surprise at the end of his fishing line, life decided to throw Robbie a curveball, a delicious tall, dark, and handsome curveball. This welcomed surprise thereby moved right up to the top of Robbie's to do list, and turned out to be something that was needed not only in Robbie's life, but, also within the growing society of Port Stephen.

As Robbie continues to re-connect with his father in Port Stephen, an idyllic and peaceful place on Lake Erie for fishermen and also for lake lovers, in general, he begins to test the waters, and vice-versa, of his new and incredibly intriguing new neighbor, Raj, a 27 year old work-at-home computer specialist. Once the surrounding waters were calm, Robbie and Raj secretly entered into a budding hot and heavy relationship that neither could have predicted.

I found this story to be an interesting and beautiful read at the same time. Coming from a childhood that was heavily spent at the beach, I wasn't too familiar with the fishing terminology from this story. I'm lucky if I knew the significance of stern and the bow, let alone anything else.. *grinning* So, even though that was a minor hindrance, I still found it to be quite easy, as a whole, to picture Port Stephen with its beautiful lake and surroundings, in my minds eye, as a benefit to the overall storyline, even with my limited knowledge of fishing lingo.

That being said, I quickly discovered that while I had enjoyed witnessing Robbie and Raj as they continued down their new time together, with their exciting yet intermittent sexual romping, I did find it somewhat difficult to truly connect with them at first. I found there to be a need for more character development for not only the two of them, but, also for all of the characters. Even though I looooved Robbie, with his kind, considerate, and outgoing bubbly personality, there was this somewhat disconnection, as a whole, with the other characters, that had existed. Whether this disconnection was due to the existence of the seemingly part-time relationship, or not, it was difficult to experience its fluidity. I needed to see the continuity of this relationship from not only during the week, but, also how it had continued on into the weekend. Along with, how it had related to the secondary characters as well.

In addition to the lack of complete character development, and the need for better fluidity, I also found there to be unclear breaks within the plot. I found myself needing to re-read parts of the story more than once due to either a need for clarity, or, the non-existence of a connection between the scenes.

I was glad to have continued through the story, hoping to find that true connection. I was glad to have read about what makes Port Stephen such a draw for fishermen, and tourists alike. I could see the almost innate need for a fisherman to get out onto the water to try to have that one "best catch." I also often found myself swaying from side-to-side as if I was lounging on a boat on one of those perfectly clear and sunny days during the summer.

Reading about the ups and downs of Robbie and Raj's relationship, not only had me still on the edge of my seat, it was also very enlightening to see how both men grew in their own development, while solidifying not only their own relationship, but, also their connection with both families as well.

Like a bolt of lightening on a summer day, it hit me. Due to a particular heart-wrenching event, I began to finally and truly feel that necessary connection between, and with, the two main characters, who now are two mature, sweet, kind, and considerate young men. I love Robbie and Raj. So, I am sure glad to have found that connection.

I recommend this book for all to enjoy, as it's a book not only just for those who enjoy that absolute peaceful pleasure when being out on a lake, but also for those who would enjoy a quickly developed read, of two good-looking men who had felt the magic of a certain beautiful and attractive lure..:)

The Lure of Port Stephen edition by Sydney Blackburn Romance eBooks Reviews

Love love love Robby and Raj.   Nice, easy read low on angst and heavy on the love.
This was a very cute book! Robbie and Raj are adorable and it was nice to see them finally come together after everything they went through. Also love a POC as an MC and it was well done here.
This story is both sweet and hot. There’s no denying the sizzling chemistry between the sensual Raj and the endearingly awkward Robbie. If you’re looking for a good summer read, a mini-vacation delivers. Expect warm, fuzzy feelings and a long afterglow. Simply put, this story is a-lluring!
This is a quick and easy read of Robbie and Raj.
I had trouble getting into the book. There was so much going on in a small number of pages that I couldn’t get a good feel for the characters and the story. Later on, the pace was slower and hence the story was getting better.
Robbie is a rather young twenty-two-year-old and he has a lot of growing up to do. Raj is the older guy, who is already more settled in life.
It was written in a pleasant writing style with a fair amount of humor and rather hot love scenes.

I was honored with an advanced reader copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this book.
If you're looking for a quick, sexy read that's probably a little different than what you're used to, look no further than The Lure of Port Stephen by Sydney Blackburn. A catchy (and oh so brilliant title) along with an eye catching cover put this on my radar as soon as I spied it. At a little under 100 pages, The Lure of Port Stephen was a really nice way to spend an hour or two and left me with a smile on my face.

Set in picturesque Port Stephen, Robbie Wales spends his weekends getting reacquainted with his absentee father and new step mother. In his early twenties, Robbie knows he's gay but is afraid to come out to his dad for fear of upsetting their new relationship. They spend time fishing and camping, drinking beer around a firepit and talking. It's not a scintillating way to spend his weekends, but Robbie is happy with the way things are going and okay with letting everything happen in its own time ...until a Tall Dark and Handsome guy appears in the campsite right next to his dad's. Raj Williams is older than Robbie, sophisticated and sexy and intriguing and Robbie cant stop thinking about the man, or staring at him. Once these two meet, it's intense chemistry central.

The plot of The Lure of Port Stephen is predictable and the conflict between Robbie and his dad even more so, but I found Robbie and Raj rather sweet. For such a short book, we got to know a lot about these two guys and their friends and family. There was WAY too much sex, so much so I skimmed most of those parts, but the attraction and chemistry between the two felt real and genuine. I really can't get over how perfect the title is for the book, and when I realized the link between the story and the title, I smiled like a fool. The book is well written, the plot doesn't get bogged down even though it was predictable. I liked how fishing played a part in both Robbie's relationship with his dad as well as his with Raj. The secondary characters were interesting and fun (well, there was one or two who were annoying, but that's good in its own way). All in all, this was a lovely book and I'll be looking for more from this author.
